As Deputy Principal Viola of Oper Frankfurt, a former member of the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, a former scholar of the Karajan Academy of the Berlin Philharmonic, and a graduate with bachelor’s, master’s and diploma qualifications from some of the most prestigious music institutions in Moscow and Berlin, Loiko has gained unique insights into the world of classical music, which he shares through Music Insights and its inspiring gettogethers in an intimate and personal setting.
Loiko was born into a family of textile chemists in Ivanovo, near Moscow. His musical talent was discovered at kindergarden when he was four years old. At the age of five he then began taking violin lessons. His very first teacher also introduced him to the rich tonal possibilities of the viola, an instrument to which Loiko gradually devoted more and more of his attention.
At the age of 14, Loiko was admitted as a junior student of viola at the Mussorgsky Music College in St. Petersburg. In 2010, he was awarded the National Scholarship for Art and Culture in Moscow.
Alongside earning his diploma at the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory, Loiko studied viola with Tabea Zimmermann at the Hanns Eisler School of Music in Berlin. From 2017 to 2019, Loiko was a scholarship holder at the Karajan Academy of the Berlin Philharmonic which shaped his passion for the orchestra world. Loiko furthermore drew artistic inspiration from Julia Gartemann, Yuri Bashmet, Eberhard Feltz, Amihai Grosz und Naoko Shimizu.
Following his time at the Karajan Academy, Loiko completed his master’s degree in solo performance at the Berlin University of the Arts with highest honours, studying under Wilfried Strehle. At the same time, he further developed his orchestral and chamber music experience through numerous guest performances with the Berlin Philharmonic, including appearances at Suntory Hall in Tokyo, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Royal Festival Hall in London, the Musikverein in Vienna and the Festspielhaus Baden-Baden. Loiko has furthermore been invited to prestigious festivals, including the Zermatt Music Festival, the Prague Spring Festival, the Easter Festival in Baden-Baden and the Heidelberger Frühling.
During the 2022/23 season, Loiko was a member of the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra. In 2023, he won the fixed postition of Deputy Principal Viola at the Frankfurt Opera Orchestra. For the 2025/26 season, he was appointed Principal Viola at the Frankfurt Opera Orchestra.
To share his passion about classical music, Loiko co-founded the Music Insights initiative in 2025 in Frankfurt am Main together with Rebecca Lyson. Music Insights aims to offer an inspiring introduction – or a renewed connection – to the world of classical music, while bringing together a diverse range of artists and art forms with an equally inspiring audience. Loiko is responsible for the artistic direction and programming of the Music Insights concerts.
